Artist Statement

I’ve made art all my life. Rumor has it that when I was born I jumped out of my mother’s womb and said, “Let’s Dance!” and soon after that I said, “Hand me a pad and pen! I have some drawing to do!” (I think it was a couple of days later that I discovered an electric guitar, and the rest is history!).

Anyway, to talk about my art is to talk about the art of CREATING. Because to me it’s ALL ART! Whether I’m drawing, painting, sculpting, writing, making music, building a restaurant or designing toys, its all art to me. I am happiest when I’m creating something and I’m always encouraging other people to develop their creative side… to jump in and make something!

I work in many different styles and mediums as this website shows. I have had one-man shows that people thought were group shows because of the many different styles of my work. Everything from classical portraits to comics, I have enjoyed exploring the world of art and I’ve been very fortunate to be able to be successful in many arenas.

So take a look through my stuff and enjoy!

Kevin Stark Bio

Born and raised in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Kevin Stark has been an artist his whole life. From the time he could hold a pencil he was constantly drawing, and at the age of fifteen he was hired by an ad agency to be their full-time artist. While still a teenager, Stark worked in the commercial art field providing designs for in-store displays for chains of variety stores.

While studying at the University of Oklahoma, Stark shifted his focus from commercial art to fine art and portraiture. After leaving school he became a cartoonist, writer, photographer, sculptor, musician, songwriter and toy designer. Stark continues to work freelance for toy companies around the world and has also done work for movie and television studios.

Through his art gallery and studio, Stark Art, located in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, he has created work in several mediums, including oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, sculptures, and graphic art pieces. His work has been shown and sold worldwide and has allowed him the ability to pursue many creative endeavors.

Stark has found he likes to work in so many different styles and mediums that he has started channeling his artistic energies through different artist “characters” that he has created. By creating different personas, Stark is able to paint in styles that are completely different than what he’s known for. In the guise of Pop Artist, Red Kittens, Stark paints minimalist paintings of a red kitty that have been haled for their positive energy and inspiration. As the artist, Jett Black, he has become an abstract painter that creates monochromatic paintings in black and white of Oklahoma thunderstorms at night. He has even taken the guise of a female painter named Ivory Keyes, a painter that does beautiful realistic paintings of birds. So far, Stark has appeared in the guise of at least five other artists, besides himself. There’s no telling how many more may be lurking in the shadows, but its certain they will be fun and interesting.
